From the green Island for Macu : (quizz in pictures, i think only Aggie can answer)

Business...

Just received my posters for a big event i'm organising in August about "Tendencies of Illustration" where i'll be exhibiting and SELLING (fingers-crossed) french illustrated books. The artcraft was offered to me by Olivier Balez, a well-known illustrator, i fell so proud... well, now, how do i manage to distribute the 400 posters throughout the city ?
Me encanta !

Froid...

Freezing here this morning, snow in the mountains all around... hence this song, especially for WWM in Québec !

A few pictures of the central coast of Chile, all taken earlier in the year in Valparaiso and Quintay, a small and colourful fisherman spot.

Idir

I am having great fun with the feed-back of this blog. Reaaaally bhoys !!! And as i know everyone is expecting me to ramble north and south about irish music and singers, i decided to go a very different way (for today !) and bring instead some surprises to make it more interesting... aka “the unknown side of me”, ah ah... You'll find below some clips of a DVD i brought back from France and just recently took out of the shelf again. Memory lane : Idir is a musician and singer from Algeria. He is a proud berber and is the number one ambassador of the Kabyle culture in the world. Exiled in France, he had a very big hit with his song “A Vava Inouva” back in 1976. That was when i first heard him, i was 14 and instantly mesmerised by the LP of the same name. A Vava Inouva has been re-recorded many times, a fantastic version is to be heard on his “Identités” duet album, where he sings it with Karen Matheson, of Capercaille. What i love in Idir, apart from the fact that he dresses in black, plays the guitar, is in his sixties, sings the ballads like no-one and is committed to a number of causes, (any similarities with other people is merely coincidence) is his talent to mingle all sorts of music styles and generations. Genuinely open-minded and musically empathetic, he is respected by rap to traditional musicians of all ages and colours. He has just released an album called “The Colours of France”, i'm looking forward to it. There’s one of his older songs on the Ipod radio here, and more to check on Youtube if interested. And no, he's not singing in gaelic...

Ouf ! Pfew !

A few aspirins later... the Ipod is well and kicking, i tested it over and over. Depending where and how, it takes a few seconds between songs, but it definitively works. The choice of songs was great fun, i thought of each and everyone of "youse", explanations tomorrow...

Quelques aspirines plus tard... tatatata... ma radioblog marche !

Grrrrrr...

I KNOW : the Ipod is not working well... but you have no idea how stubborn i am. This is my new personal battle against evils of technology.

Oh, I'm being followed by a moonshadow, moonshadow, moonshadow...
Leapin and a hoppin' on a moonshadow, moonshadow, moonshadow...

First quiz !

First one to name the pub wins a pint !

Burning times, written by Charles Murphy

In the cool of the evening they used to gather beneath the stars, in the meadow, circled near an old oak tree.
At the times appointed by the seasons of the earth and the phases of the moon.
In the centre often stood a woman, equal to the others and respected for her worth.
One of the many we call the witches, the healers and the teachers of the wisdom of the earth.
People grew in the knowledge she gave them, herbs to heal their bodies spells to make their spirits whole.
Hear them chanting healing incantations-calling for the wise ones celebrating in dance and song.
ISIS-ASTARTE-DIANA-HECATI-DEMETER-KALI-INANNA
There were those who came to power through domination, bonded in their worship of a dead man on the cross.
They sought control over all people, demanding allegiance to the church of Rome.
The pope commenced the inquisition - a war against women whose powers were feared.
In this holocaust, this century of evil, nine million European women died.
The tale is told of those who by the hundreds, holding hands together chose their deaths in the sea.
Chanting the praises of the mother goddess, a refusal of betrayal, women were dying to be free.

Now the Earth is a witch, we still burn her, stripping her down with mining and the poison of our wars.
Still to us the Earth is still a healer a teacher and a Mother a weaver of a web that keeps us all alive.
She gives us the wisdom to see through the chaos, she gives us the courage it is our will to survive.
